Whatever the time of day or night you are reading this I imagine you are hard at work, crouched over your system and trying to squash that one persistent AS bug, yet your mind is quietly looking for that spark, your next best seller.
Eureka Moments
Sudden spurts of actual genius tend to happen when you least expect it, Archimedes can vouch for that. So the real question I guess you should be asking yourself is, Should I be looking for inspiration, or should it find me?
When it comes to web design most people tend to view online galleries, artworks, trend sites and so on. But where do the people who are actually giving out these inspirational pieces of work getting their own ideas? Is there some sort of secret council, a code among the “elite”, a hereditary trait, long hard working days and nights or just pure luck? The fact is, no one really knows.
You cannot knock on inspirations door, it knocks on your door. Granted, some people do get lucky and are just in the right place at the right time. Some get run down on their luck and life takes them down a different path, perhaps in preparation for even greater things. Some just work hard at it and reap their rewards.
But whenever inspiration does knock it always presents itself at the perfect opportune time. If you happen to be there, by all means grab it by its wings and enjoy the ride.
How Can I Attract Inspiration?
Inspiration has a weird way of showing itself. Sometimes it’s in the graceful dance of a leaf floating by, a rainbow you see far away on the horizon, that girl/guy sitting in the park {for our single readers}, your baby in your hands {for our parent readers} or just from having a conversation with someone.
While designing Flash files does require you to spend quite some time in front of a computer, I’m pretty sure that most of the time you get ideas for your next file while doing something totally bland.
Fact: I wash dishes at home to get my brain ticking, as everyone leaves me alone at that point of time, and that’s when I usually get most of my web design ideas. It’s pure bliss.
I’ve always said to myself if I ever became a “Master of Flash” I would build some sort of interactive environment that would have a mind of it’s own, and grow from the interactions of people that have passed by. Sadly, I am not a Master of Flash nor see myself becoming one anytime in the near future, but it’s the basic thought of it that helps me dream up other stuff. Some of which has helped me write the content that I have enjoyed sharing with you in my time writing for this blog.
In the end, it is not about how much you know or how you much more you can try to know. It’s about what you do with what you do know. That’s the real key to inspiration.
